The ramp funding is going great! We expect to have the radial part replaced and redecked by the end of this month! We'll redeck the rest of the ramp if we are moving fast enough, but may wait a little while to finish the flat decking since we don't want the ramp down for a long time.
We are going to... mehr

Raef and I will be doing up a full Manilla video soon. It's normally more of a feel good style rather than documentary. The last few year's footage is already in YouTube, if you search for them (Manilla hang gliding 2007). mehr

On Wednesday morning Jonny launched early from Beechmont on an excellent day and beat his previous Australian distance record of 500 km, flying 517 km (321 miles) landing 40 km west of Roma, QLD,  past Muckadilla. He should be back in Beechmont at 2 AM, and be ready to go again on Thursday as it looks like a better day.
While we were in... mehr

In the latest issue of the journal Science, Anders Hedenstrom of Lund University in Sweden and his colleagues report that when a nectar-eating bat hovers in midair to sip liquid sugar, the mammal’s sharp-edged flexible wings generate the same sort of precision whirlwind lift detected... mehr

This last week I had the opportunity to compete, put out the Oz Report, assist with the scoring (after setting up the scoring system and computer), and test my scoring system against the FS scoring system that is being supported by CIVL. This was as much a real world test for my program (it has been used in about half a dozen competitions, and... mehr

Conrad Lotten is again the hero of this story.
On Wednesday I blew a launch on the north launch at Mt. Borah. I did something very similar what you saw in the video of my launch on the west side later in the day. Likely I took two or three steps with the glider horizontal then let the glider nose come up. Also I launched on a flat slope with no... mehr

After climbing back up from below the west launch at Mt. Borah (assisted by two other helpful pilots including Pedro) I got a well thought out examination from Dr. Lotten (head of the emergency room at the John Hunter hospital in Newcastle). He determined (without the use a an MRI, which we didn't have on launch) that I most likely had a Grade 2... mehr

Frame 2 shows the pilot beginning to run. While it is not a fast or jack rabbit start, the relaxed hands allow the arms to lose contact with the downtubes. Arm contact with the downtubes, where the hands are wrapped around the downtubes and the forearms are held firmly against... mehr

This is a bit of the aftermath of my crash on Friday. In this case there was a good wind on Mt. Borah coming up the west launch. I had Belinda out in front telling me whether the trees down below were shaking or not. The streamers  were coming straight up the launch. The wind sock up high was... mehr

Why?
Most likely not concentrating on the mechanics of a foot launch. Getting the nose down, holding the downtubes back. Spending a lot of time aerotowing and less time foot launching, although I've done a lot of that lately, some times as poorly as the example shown in the video (which is why I had two other poor launches with less good... mehr
