With the meet forecasting climbs to 20,000' we headed off for the Sugar Mountain launch across the Oregon California border. It's a high launch at 7,200'. The valley floor is about 4,800'.

Today it is supposed to be 93 degrees on the ground at 4800' today. Cooler than the last few days, but still pretty warm. But the real eye opener is the forecast for nine degrees Fahrenheit at top of the lift at 18,300'. Plenty of clouds late in the afternoon (you can see them  on the satellite at 7:30 AM to our west over the Cascades).... mehr

Lots of pilots who were a bit starved for air time headed up Sugar (and perhaps other launches) for a bit of flying before the meet. O'Brien and I had plenty of air time so we chose to stay on the ground. Turns out only Zippy flew as it was blowing hard over the back and he took off in a cycle up the south facing front.

It started out windy in the morning and has been windy all day, despite the forecast for light winds. 13 mph, gusting to 22 mph. There were a few cu's over the mountains east of highway 395, and where all the launches are other than Hadley's Butte to the north. Cu's way across the valley to the west and none over the valley.

The highlight of the day was the pilot of Brasilia, Glauco Pinto, who came in first and completed the course in 2 hours. 33 minutes, 6 minutes in front of second placed Nenê Rotor. Andre Wolf and Jonny Durand did not complete the task. With this result,... mehr

Durch einen Motorausfall bedingt fährt die Kabinenbahn an der Hochries seit dem 4. August nicht mehr.
Die Reparatur der von Betriebsleiterin Birgit lieb genannten Lieselotte hält an.
Ein genauer Termin der Wiederinbetriebnahme ist noch nicht bekannt.
