c'est fou, faut regarder au niveau des arbres, y a un espece de nuage blanc floteux, comme du brouillard, chelou. a vous de jugez. par contre, si vous ecoutez bien, vous entendrez un bruit chelou, comme des gosses qui chantent une chanson, par contre j'arrive pas a saisir ce qu'ils disent. donc monter un peu le son pour les entendre

Francois Boieldieu - La dame blanche - "Vive a jamais notre nouveau Seigneur" (Rockwell Blake)
As I've mentioned in a previous upload, I wanted to upload Georges' third scene from Boieldieu's "La dame blanche".
The piece actually is just a bit longer: there is an opening chorus and a recitative for Georges as he admires his new chateau (he has bought the d'Avenel family manor in the Second Act) and then notices how familiar to him is the castle. The uploaded except starts at the beginning of the piece itself (a scene, rather than an aria or a chorus): the chorus sings the d'Avenel hymn and passes the family banner onto Georges. Georges recognizes the tune and tries to sing it himself (at first, unsuccessfully, but finally he gets it). The hymn itself, with a prominent part for solo harp, is one of the true highlights of the score. If one was to choose a piece, representing the charm of opera comique, this would be one of the possibilities. It does seem a bit sentimental (the whole opera is just a hint too sugary), but the music is wonderful :). A contrasting lively section has Georges and the chorus celebrate the future happiness that the chateau will bring to all. The "A section" is then again repeated.
I have used the rendition which puts the American tenor Rockwell Blake into the part of Georges. But for me the true star here is the Choeur de Radio France which is unbelievably vibrant and characterful. Anyway, enjoy :)!
