Paragliding at Mount Pleasant in Barbados. The winds were pretty high. The plan was to land in the cart road to the left, but the one to the right was closer at the time. Loads of fun avoiding those cane fields.

DC Fire Department delayed fighting the Mount Pleasant Fire.
I recorded this shortly after the arrival of the first fire engines. The time code represents where my tape is at.
The fire eventually declared a 5 alarms fire with more then 300 firefighters from DC, Maryland and Virginia... The fire destroyed 85 apartment units at the Deauville at 3145 Mount Pleasant Street in Washington, DC, also damaged much of Meridian Hill Baptist Church and part of 3149 Mount Pleasant Street, leaving almost 200 people homeless, and millions of dollars in damages. District of Columbia Fire Chief Dennis Rubin told WTOP news radio that the fire crews first focused on evacuating the buildings. This was the Drummer's 1st performance ever in the history of Mount Pleasant High School without Majorettes. This routine was learned on the spot. I am very proud of what we have accomplished as a team together, even though we had our ups and downs, but we pulled through and got things to happen. I hope that we started something that would last for many more years at Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, RI. Class of 2007.

A blatant FRA violation in Mount Pleasant
The engineer of Metro North Train 9631, the express train from Grand Central to Southeast, makes a blatant FRA violation as he approaches the Lakeview Avenue crossing in Mount Pleasant. The violation is that he did not blow the horn according to FRA rules. The rules require a long, long, short, long, which is the standard procedure. This engineer blew once or twice, just as he was fouling the crossing. Anyhow, the train is an 8 car set of M7's. I am standing next to the sidewalk at Sharon Gardens. Toronto biking tour: Older part of Mt. Pleasant Cemetery
These video clips were taken during my biking tour on July 15, 2007. I rode from Toronto's east end through the Taylor Creek Park through a phenomenal, virtually untouched nature area in Toronto's Don Valley to the neighbourhood of Leaside. From there I made way westwards through Mount Pleasant Cemetery and the upscale Rosedale area to the ravine system west of Bathhurst Street. After a brief stop at Salsa on St. Clair, Toronto's popular Latin street festival, now in its second year, I cycled down to the historic neighbourhood of Parkdale and from there to Toronto's Western Beaches at Sunnyside Park and stopped at Harbourfront on my way home.
Along the way I saw surprisingly pristine nature areas, busy street life, lots of free outdoor music and concerts and beachfront activity on this beautiful summer day. Almost 60 km later I finally arrived at home after a full day of discoveries.
The clips from this biking trip are part of my "Toronto Favourites" series and many more of these discoveries are to come. I am actually a travel writer, and whenever I am not out of town, I write about the city that I live in: Toronto, a city that has many cool places. I love to get out and explore the city and discover some new cool spots, and now you can enjoy them with me.
