Lake Placid - Cairns Australia
Lake Placid is a recreation park located at the base of the Barron Gorge just 20 mins drive North/west of the Cairns CBD. Lake Placid is a large natural lake formed by the Barron River.
There is a recreation area here with a cafe and bar as well as canoes and other water sports equipment for hire. Being so close to Cairns, Lake Placid is a favourite spot for local families on the weekends as well as kayaking enthusiasts.
Access to the lake is free and there is BBQ facilities available. Lake Placid is the final destination for the Barron River Rafting which run daily starting at the hydro electric power station.
The background music was performed at Lake Placid by a local Cairns musician on the day the video was shot.

Cairns is a regional city and Local Government Area located in Queensland, Australia. Originally settled in 1876, and named after William Wellington Cairns (the then Governor of Queensland) to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, the settlement declined when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. However, Cairns' future was secured as it developed into a railhead and major port for the exportation of sugar cane, gold, precious metals and agricultural industries from the surrounding coastal and Tableland regions. The city is rapidly expanding, with a population of 122 731 (as of 2006) and is reliant on the sugar and tourism industries.[1]
Cairns lies about 1,701 km (1,057 mi) from Brisbane and about 2,420 km (1,504 mi) from Sydney by road.
Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Australia, in the state of Queensland. Adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef it is in the dry tropics region of Queensland. Townsville is Australia's largest urban centre north of the Sunshine Coast with the 2006 census recording the Townsville Statistical District (the urban centre) population to be 143,328 people.[1] Townsville is seen as the unofficial capital of North Queensland[2][3] as it hosts a significant number of governmental, community and major business administrative offices for the northern half of the state.

Rockhampton is a regional city and Local Government Area located in Queensland, Australia. Cyclone Larry - Destruction in Cairns, Australia
March 20th, 2006 - I put together a whole bunch of footage from today's cyclone/hurricane. Everyone seemed to wake up at 6am when it hit. At the time it wasn't too intense, but after an hour it started to pick up. Innisfail was hit only about an hour before Cairns (it's roughly an hour drive away). When it hit Innisfail it had wind speeds recorded of up to 290 km/hour, and remained fairly steady as it drifted inland.
At 11:30am, well and truly after it had headed away and towards Atherton, I ventured out into the city and drove around the suburbs to get some shots. Many, many trees have been uprooted, buildings have been damaged, a lot of gas station and hotel signs are either bent, or lying smashed on the ground. Also, the old "Welcome to Cairns" sign next to Earlville has been torn in half, and the same goes to tarps at car yards.
The power was out for 11 hours at my suburb in Cairns, and about 2-3 full days later most of the rest of the city got their powerback. Gordonvale is expected to wait until the weekend (a whole week later). Innisfail has been pretty much completely wiped out.
For those of you who have never been in a hurricane/cyclone before, this is probably as close to it as you'll be. I'd like to get as many people to see this as possible, so please spread the word!
