A North Wind Blows, West Runton, 29th November 2008
The whole of the South of England was forecast rain, but thanks to those bright guys who do the met modelling it looked like the North Norfolk coast would be flyable. It was a two and a half hour drive up from London, mostly through moist, misty conditions. It was a wow moment when skies cleared only thirty miles south of the coast, and another when I saw gliders in the sky. The cliff runs three and a half miles between Cromer and Sheringham. I'd been meaning to visit Cromer all my life, as my great grandparents came from there. Little did I know my first sight of the small seaside town would be soaring above it. That was the third wow. The handful of flyers there - mostly from the Norfolk club - are a great bunch - welcoming, helpful and friendly. Smooth air, nice weekend flying - a great day out. Well worth the drive.
