Taiwan Pres. Visits Military Airstrip
WONG:
Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian visited a new Taiwanese airstrip this weekend.
The airstrip is located in the disputed Spratly islands, which are claimed by Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines. The islands may also hold large oil and gas deposits.
[Chen Shui-bian, Taiwanese President]:
"Taiping Island has been a territory of Taiwan since December 12, 1946, after the Taiping Vessel took over and encamped naval forces on the island."
Analysts said Chen's visit is a strong assertion of Taiwan's sovereignty ahead of the U.N. referendum in March.
But Chen is also winding down the last two months of his two-term presidency, and trying to build support for his DPP party after a defeat at parliamentary elections.

This French air force TransAll C-160 made a 'tactical landing' in the dark on the Goz Beida airstrip in the east of Chad, on the evening of Wednesday 7 May 2008.
This landing was necessary because another C-160, carrying EU High Representative Javier Solana, Europe's foreign policy chief, broke down just before sunset.

Wanni Operation 20th November, 2008 / Task Force 1 captures LTTE Airstrip Pooneryn
Task Force 1 now marching towards Paranthan LTTE stronghold has captured one of the LTTE airstrips located in the Nivil area, Pooneryn this afternoon (Nov 20).
According to the defence sources in the filed, the airstrip is about 200m in length. The terrorists have demarcated a stretch of the B-69 Pooneryn-Parantan main road, which is also believed to be used as an emergency landing strip by the LTTE, military sources said. Troops have established their forward boundaries about 14 km west from Paranthan and engaged in clearing operations at present, the sources added.
The LTTE terrorists are the first terror outfit to procure airpower introducing a new dimension to the global terrorist warfare.

This is simple demonstration on how to do the mission Stowaway in Verdant Meadows.

There are no edits in this video... what you see is what actually happened.
Here are the details:
OrionSR, rubregg, and others came up with the basic strategy for this.
You can destroy the plane before it takes off.
Get a minigun; 200 rounds should be more than enough.
After the cut-scene with Toreno is over, the actual mission begins, and you're sitting on the motorcycle.
Get off of the motorcycle and use the minigun to destroy the plane as it's taking off, the plane will stop on the runway, and you will not fail the mission for doing that. http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stowawayca8.jpg
Then simply ride up to the ramp at the back of the plane. You can take your time and ride at whatever speed you want; that plane's not going anywhere. http://img442.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stowaway2ib2.jpg
This is where it gets weird:
Once you get onto the ramp, the screen goes dark and you'll find yourself at the point in the mission where you must dodge the barrels.
The small cut-scene before that (with you dodging the barrels and losing the motorcycle) is skipped altogether.
The plane is not destroyed anymore, and you are now inside the plane, which is somehow flying in the air.
Important: You must be on the motorcycle (or a vehicle of somekind) to trigger the rest of the mission, simply walking up to the ramp does nothing.

The rest of the mission plays out the same as it normally would.
Another weird aspect is, after destroying the plane with the minigun, you can go away for as long as you like, and come back complete the mission whenever you want, because there's no time limit.
However, if you go away long enough the plane will disappear, but you can still complete the mission as long as you know where the ramp was when the plane came to a stop after it was destroyed by the minigun.
There's an invisible spot left on the runway that will still trigger the cut-scene with C.J. dodging the barrels, and the mission continues normally after that.
