Near the Gerlospass and part of the "Pinzgauer Spaziergang" this is a little mountain that is probably overflown/overlooked a lot.
I want to recommend it in case you are there in winter and like ski touring.
It is a two hour tour and gives you a nice opportunity to revive and train your fitness combined with either skiing or flying down or both.

Flug
Take off from all westerly directions and nice soaring is possible along the ridge from Baumgartgeier to Ronachgeier. Easterly and southerly take off also possible (however I never checked in summer)
Besonderheiten und Webcam
perfect view into the Hohe Tauern and Zillertaler main chain of the alps.
Even in very bad winter weather you can ski-tour this tour as the path cannot be missed. |
Walk and Fly
Ausgangspunkt:
Ronach lying on the old mountain road connecting Königsleiten/Gerlospass and Krimml.
Take the road behind Ronach into the woods, first option turn left into the footpath and after 100meters turn north following the ridge all the way up to the top.
Wegbeschreibung:
Just before reaching the Baumgartgeier summit you will pass a cross remembering a sailplane glider pilot who crashed there - will keep your humility and respect for flying at a high level.
Sonstiges:
Landingsite at Ronach should be really investigated because there are quite a few powerlines. Best landing is coming in from south - east and shortly before landing cross the road to land near the restaurant.
Soaring
Soaringbedingungen:
westerly winds especially in winter. Especially with skis this is a magic soaring site where you fly, ski and kite along the terrain making you think of dune de pilat - however here you are on your own
