Flip states that the NAA is our NAC. He writes with respect to my
second question above about sanctioning (the "Flytec Word Championship" is not
looking for sanctioning):

We are not at all suggesting that the USHPA or NAA are at fault
here. But we would expect them to withdraw the FAI Sporting Licence from any
pilot who flew in a non-sanctioned event styled "World Championship."

In response to my question, "Is it the phrase "World
Championships" as a whole that is the issue, or are there other phrases that are
restricted, for example, "Worlds" or "World Class Meet" or something else."

"World Championship" is the worst offence. But we take issue with
any organization that is not a properly constituted representative international
body claiming to organize a "World" event of any sort without an official
sanction. How can a commercial company claim to represent the world?

In response to my longer response he writes:

If you would know me better, you would know that I really believe
in communication - that is something that we don't do enough and that could take
away a lot of misunderstanding - and I, despite the fact that I do not always
agree with your opinions and your way of working, appreciate what you do for the
world of hang gliding and paragliding. I realize that you have a day job (I
understand what you mean with it; I can not think of a European expression for
it) and that you have avocations that make you wear different hats and that
could be confusing.


I know that you now wear two hats, but you must appreciate that by taking on an
official role World Championship director, you are exposing yourself to a
possible conflict of interest, to which the FAI Code of Ethics applies (see :
http://www.fai.org/documents/otherdocs/code_ethics) . If your duty as a
journalist conflicts with your duty as World Championship director, you
should refrain from controversial journalism. You can't play poacher and
gamekeeper simultaneously.


Whether you like it or not, you will have to accept that functions, where you
represent the USHPA and NAA like in your former function as USHPA Competition
Committee Chairman or in your present function in the Hang Gliding World
Championships, will ask from you to follow the rules and policy of the USHPA and
NAA, also where it concerns for example accepting the democratic approved rules
of the FAI and CIVL.
