Towing safety at the Flytec Championship

The folks at Quest Air have seen too many pilots come to their
meets with insufficient aerotowing skills, putting themselves and the tug pilots
at unreasonable risk. Now they no longer wish to risk having a pilot die while
aerotowing at Quest Air.

At the Flytec Championship in 2007, you will not only need to have an aerotowing
sign off/rating, but you will have to demonstrate your aerotowing skills to the
satisfaction of the Quest Air crew. That means you should not enter the Flytec
Championship unless you are very experienced and very skilled at aerotowing.

Unfortunately, a number of pilots have lied about their skills in the past (and
not just at the Flytec meets). They think that they can just do it when the time
comes. Well, maybe, but if you do that you risk being tossed immediately out of
the meet, if you display poor aerotowing technique.

So, don't register for the Flytec Championships unless you have the skills and
experience to aerotow successfully (you will be asked to detail your aerotow
experience on the application form) and be prepared to be excluded from the meet
if your skills aren't up to snuff.

This is a safety issue and will be treated as such by the organizers.

If your skills aren't as strong as you would like (but you do have experience)
then think about coming way early to Quest Air and getting a lot of tows to hone
those skills. I am not talking about a couple of days early either. And I am not
talking about starting from scratch.
