When the DHV was approached with the idea of supporting scooter
towing, they didn't see the point. After all there had been plenty of winch
towing over the years in Germany and it hadn't done anything to save hang
gliding from its precipitous decline. What was new about this approach?


It's so funny when you think you know something as you've seen it in the past,
and then it has changed in a subtle way and it becomes unrecognizable. But you
cling to the truth that is now out of date.


I've seen plenty of winch towing done wrong. The changes that have been made
make all the difference between the failures of the past, and the success of the
future. But we are stuck with the guys who know more about the past than hope for the future.


Hang Gliding is in decline. Does the DHV have a better answer than vastly
improved instructional methods to save the sport? Perhaps if they do, they can
implement them.


Fortunately, a number of German hang gliding instructors are not paying any
attention to the DHV and are coming to the Steve Went Blue Sky Scooter Tow
Clinics in February and April in Florida.
