There will be a paraglider FAI Cat 2 Manilla Cross Country Open
competition just before the 2007 World Championships. Manilla XC-Open 2007 14th
Feb - 21st Feb.


There are three groups of reserved places for pilots that meet certain criteria
until end Oct 2006 (participated in 2005 XC Open; Worlds pilots; OLC pilots).
After that it's open to all pilots.


The Manilla XC Open 2007 is a continuation of the highly successful and much
liked, low stress, Open Distance style format pioneered by the 2005 event. It
will continue annually and become part of a planned worldwide series of XC-Open
similar events at selected locations - so keep a lookout on FAI event calendars.
The next planned location for the XC-Open Series will be Piedrahita in Spain,
Europe's premier XC-flying site beginning of September, 2007.


The organisers - Andreas Rieck and Hans Bausenwein (both from Germany, but who
have flown in Manilla for many seasons) - have planned a low cost event with
quite creative new aspects like optional self downloading via the OLC and SMS
check in. Godfrey Wenness, organiser of the World Championships in Manilla will
be doing the weather and safety briefs and flight suggestions daily. Only the
pilots best four scores count to the overall result and each day is scored as
with a standard task style comp (PWC formula 1000 pts for the best pilot every
day). As in 2005, the event is designed to maximise a pilots flying each day -
thus as in 2005, re-flights from anywhere are allowed as many times as a pilot
wishes.
