As we know already there is no Flytec Championship in 2008 at Quest Air, in Groveland, Florida. Now we have learned that there won't be a Florida Ridge meet in 2008. Rob Kells <<email>> writes:

He's decided that the time and logistics needed to put on a good meet doesn't seem justified by the response he's gotten. James said he plans to take a year off, but would like to do a meet in the spring of 2009, if enough comp pilots are interested and he gets the support needed to put on a good comp.

The Flytec Championship and the Florida Ridge meet are a symbiotic couple, and if one goes it's hard to maintain and support the other. The Ridge is way down there in south Florida, a long ways from anything else. It is a great place to fly with wide open areas (and some swampy ones), but it is a long ways to go from a competition especially for US pilots, who would be traveling by car. It's actually easier to get there from Europe (LTU) with your glider.

I don't know if it is possible for a comeback in 2009, without the Flytec Championship and Quest Air together again. Maybe that will happen (Florida land and homes are in a bust cycle after all). Maybe the Flytec Championship is just taking a well deserved year off.
