2008 Bogong Cup, judging the winds
In the afternoon Scott Barrett and I went up Emu to check out the conditions and in particular the winds. We knew by then that my predictions were coming true and that it looked flyable. I had earlier suggested that Emu was the place to launch from (it faces generally west) and even though there was a northwest wind in the valley at 2 PM, that looked like the spot.
When we got up to launch the thermals were coming right up the launch. It looked perfect. The lulls were nice, and sometimes the thermals were coming up from the right of launch through the trees. The skies were blue, but we did see a couple of cu's near launch, and quite a few cu's past Mt. Buffalo as forecasted.
Scott got off and went right up. His plan was to thermal up Mt. Bogong. I asked him to go north a bit down the ridge to get an idea of the winds he would encounter there. I had forecasted 12 to 14 knots. It looked lighter than that to me.
Here is his SeeYou report of the winds:

RASP is a superior tool. It was great at Forbes. So far (two days) it has proved its worth here relative to other tools. Scott had an enjoyable flight. Smooth.
