After flying the trike around Newcastle, I had the opportunity to go coastal flying in a moderate southeast breeze, a little too light for dune gooning. I was flying an Airborne Fun 190 so I got stuck in a small lift band, but for excitement I got the chance to practice top landings on the small launch in an easy to launch and land glider. The landings at launch were made easier than shown in the videos by actually turning the glider into the wind and then crabbing sideways uphill until your feet are on the ground. Diving at the launch is simple as, with an ESE wind, you are going cross wind and your natural instinct is to turn into the wind as you come up the face of the hill. I was able to top land on the launch the five times I tried to do so.

Scott Barrett says that Dune Gooning is the pinnacle of hang gliding. I agree that it is a pinnacle. I also like flying very early in the morning in ultra light conditions drifting downwind in strong winds over areas that are far behind locked gates (so you have a real incentive to stay up). There are many other pinnacles.
