Bart Doets <> sends in part of an article from a Dutch hang gliding magazine:

The LCD display of my Flytec 5030 had developed several blue dots. I thought this was because of rough handling or knocking of the screen. Switching off and on again would not have them disappear. Flytec informed me that the phenomenon comes from crystallizing LCD liquid.

To "liquidate" the crystals back, put them in an oven; not very hot, 50º C (120º F) will do; Flytec mentioned a day, but in my case the screen had cleaned up after an hour and a half.

The LCD screen is reasonably easy to take out, together with the front glass it is being held to the front of the case by metal strips that can be bent open.

Don't forget to back up all your flights, because all records will be made unvalid by opening up the case and the files can no longer be downloaded.
