Flying Alpine
... Mellow lift after no lift ...
On Labor Day Tiki and Bart were out at Alpine for another day of tourist tandems and a few rides for us veterans of the sport. All three of us got rides up in the smoothest conditions that I had ever experienced here and none of us found lift.

Then we all did it again a few minutes later and I found light lift at 1000' AGL just north of the launch over the flats. The wind was almost zero and the circle I was making were mirroring the circles that the ATV's had made in the mud below. I looked at my map view on my Flytec 5030 and I just kept going around in the same circle with no drift what so ever. I had never seen this before.
The clouds overhead weren't blowing out of the west at 10-15 mph like they had on the day before either, so it was most pleasant to be able to slowly climb up to almost 9,000' and boat around for the flight of the day. Discuss Alpine at the Oz Report forum
