Due to the current Fletcher forest fire, 15 miles SW of Lakeview Oregon "Hang-on" hang gliding competition will be relocating to Woodrat Mountain, home of the famous Starthistle fly-in and the Rat Race Competition.

After watching the Fletcher fire grow for ten days the latest news is:

Today the Fletcher fire grew by 1800 acres and air tankers shut down flying at Lakeview The sky has been smoky at launch, with ash over the town of Lakeview The best chance for rain to help in the next ten days is tomorrow as a front is suppose to pass through, but the chance of precipitation is only 30% with gusts to 25 mph in the afternoon. The fire crews are pushing us out of our reserved headquarters at the Fairgrounds. The fire is only 40% contained

This decision was not made lightly and much consideration has been given to the logistics of the move.

For those of you that don't know the area, Woodrat Mountain. has a rich history in the sport of hang gliding. We are excited to hold this meet here and believe you will find the valleys to be friendly and challenging. My regional director, Mark Forbes, is signed up for the Hang-on comp. Today, he stated that even without the fire, he would rather hold the event at Woodrat Mountain. Our goal is to have a great meet for you and we believe we have a better chance at Woodrat where the flying has been great lately. The 10-day forecast looks dry and hot. 2 weeks ago at the Rat Race we flew 7 out of 7 days with 6 valid task.
