Chelan Cross Country Classic
... 101 mile paraglider flight ...

We had a good turn out for the Chelan Classic this year with approximately forty five pilots competing and great flying weather every day of the competition. Large tasks were flown by pilots in all the classes. Several hang glider pilots set personal bests of over 100 miles and James Thompson, a paraglider pilot, had a great 101 mile flight the last day of the comp.
This year we tried grouping the three rigid wing pilots we usually have every year in with the topless flex wings, along with a handicap. The points grouping was fairly tight but the rigids still took the top three spots (all are exceptional pilots with many years experience at the Butte). The top flex wing pilot came in less than 5 miles behind for the combined four days. The general feedback was that the pilots would rather have separate classes rather than a combined class and handicap so we'll probably return to the traditional format next year.
