The meet director originally scored the stopped task. Apparently (according to my correspondent) that was the rule. Then the meet director received a complaint (from, guess who, ah, erh, the Austrian team).

Then the rules get changed (according to my witness). He writes:

Of course there is a lot to say about mandatory start gates, stopping a task in relation to safety and fairness. But our opinion is that you can't change rules during a comp.

Everybody agreed on the rules as explained in the first briefing. Maybe not everybody figured out what the consequences would be in case of stopping a task. Suddenly, on day five everybody did realize it and started to complain.

That's good because in a training comp you want to try new things and get things sharp, but don't ask to change the rules retrospectively. Rules are never totally fair for everybody in every circumstance. As long as they are clear and the organisation upholds them, you have a fair comp.

As a compromise we suggested to score task five giving each pilot the same amount of flying/scoring time. We didn't get enough support for that idea.
