Today was a magic day. The RUC forecast called for a blue day, or maybe just a few wispies, so we were surprised to see the cu's popping at 11 AM. I rushed to get stuff together, given that the forecast was also for north northeast winds over 10 mph. The only fly in the ointment was the satellite photo which showed a wide east west band of cirrus 100 miles to the south. This would cut off any hope of long flights to the south.

The cloud streets were already there by shortly after noon as Tracy pulled me up to the cu's. In about fifteen minutes I was over 5,000' MSL (4,100' AGL). I headed downwind to the southwest to check out conditions and they were already great.

Unfortunately it was clear by the time I was ten miles out that the cu's lasted only another ten or twenty miles and the there was indeed a bank of cirrus to the south which added to the difficulty of going that direction. Fortunately I already had a 50 km triangle task in mind to I took the opportunity to nick the southwest turnpoint and headed east for more fun and games.

Didn't quite make it back after getting the second turnpoint but the air was great.

Got back for a second try at 4 PM and the cloud streets were looking like major convergence. In fact they were sucking lift like crazy and we had some good flights upwind to the north .and back. The cloud streets hung on until almost 8 PM.
