Static line towing in New Mexico
... Ole gets high in Rodeo ...

"Shoestring" Bill Cummings has been lurking around my hangar and re-introducing me to the thrill of static line towing, which I have not experienced in at least twenty years. I like it for the economy (about $125 in string) the legalities (no stinkin' license involved) and the challenge of getting up from a thousand feet or less!
I am happy to report that we have had some success. On Sunday I pulled Bill into a thermal and he climbed to 14,500' and flew to the Lordsburg, NM municipal airport. He might have gone much further except for logistics. Then, on Tuesday Bill gave me a tug and I climbed to 13,800' for a tour of the local attractions, including Chiracaua Peak and the Rodeo Tavern!
I am really stoked that now I have my work (weight-shift CFI trike instructor) and my play (hang gliding!) in the same big beautiful air-conditioned hangar. I've got the rope spooled up right here just waiting to lay out for a spin.
