We have received a report that Phil Bloom, a Sylmar/Kagel regular, and US National team member (he one the last day of the Flytec Race of Champions) tumbled near Kagel yesterday while flying straight with the VG on. He was supposedly flying a Moyes Litespeed S 4.

I have followed up with a request to Phil for a full report (and any corrections to this one). He threw his chute and landed back in the hills (apparently). Most everything on the glider is broken (keel, leading edge, control frame.)

Conditions were unstable and pilots were getting to 12,500', and considering that this is almost a coastal site, that it pretty darn high.
