A big rough four hour task around the swamp thanks to Paris Williams (who didn't
make it around). One of the hardest tasks ever in a competition said Jonny
Durand, who after finishing in the seventh or eighth spot two days in a row,
finally got in the money in second place (after dragging Phil Bloom around all
day). We sent the last ten pilots standing 98 miles counter clockwise around the
Green Swamp on a day with a ten to twelve mph south southeast wind. They called
for a tough task and they got it.



The first leg was to Coleman which is a bit down wind. The long leg was south
down the west side of the Swamp into the head wind with the lead changing all
the time as pilots went out in front and drifted back in thermals.



Phil was flying with Jonny the whole time and when Jonny saw Paris and Nene
getting low after the turnpoint at Clinton, he turned around and went back over
the Green Swamp to the north east to get under their last good climb. This
enabled them to push back into the wind under the clouds over the Green Swamp.



Jonny and Phil then were able to get to the third turnpoint at Dean Still and
highway 33 from upwind while the others were struggling to get there. Phil was
first into goal when he left Jonny while Jonny was reporting on the task to
David Glover on the radio (at least that is Phil's story)



The folks at goal watched as Phil came in and it looked like he wasn't going to
back it disappearing behind the trees then reappearing again. The lift happened
when it needed to and Phil made it in to win $2,500.



Nene and Leo came in at exactly the same time for third. They had made an
earlier deal to share the prize money. Six pilots made goal. Phi's time was four
hours. Jonny was two minutes behind. Then a long spell until the Brazilians came
in.
