Quest Air, Saturday
... Cu less and windy and rough ...
The forecast was for moderate to higher winds out of the east. Some pilots
seemed for some reason to think that this was the ticket for long flights to the
north. I went for my bicycle ride as they set up at 9 AM.
The cu's barely formed at all and the winds continued with some southern
component and the updated RUC forecast showed even stronger winds out of the
east. Kevin Carter took off before noon as the rest of the dozen or so pilots
sat around wishing for those inviting cu's which weren't showing up.
Kevin flew 40 miles or so to the west, not being able to get north around
Coleman and Lake Panasoffkee and had to head out over the swamps. He said that
as the thermals got stronger the air got rougher and not fun to fly in with an
13 mph east wind.
One other pilot flew, but every one else is now waiting until Sunday.
