It is a very sad day in Manilla today as one of our closest
friends Gerry Gerus took his own life after a 18 months battle with cancer.
Doctors only gave him 6 weeks when first diagnosed - the tough fighter that he
is managed to stretch it out and have another 2 seasons with us. He was also the
fittest 60+ year old you would ever meet - many said he would put the energizer
bunny to shame (and indeed some called him that as well !). Not a day went by
over this past summer where he didn't fly and come back saying how awesome it
was and he was so glad to be here.



Many of you will know Gerry well from the comps scene as he flew most of the
comps both with HG and PG for many years. He loved Corryong and was most happy
camping on the river and doing his thing. He also called Manilla his second home
and camped by the river at my place every summer season since the early days.



Gerry was a very private man and valued his circle of friends greatly. We knew
he wanted to end his life before the doctors took over, and the past few days
were the turning point where he could not eat anymore. At around midday today he
flew off Mt Borah for the last time, unclipped and left us the way he wanted to.
