On Line Contests (OLC's), the HOLC, part 2

... The OLC file upload and uploading from SeeYou don't work ...

http://www3.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/para/

Just to make sure that they did work, since I've been using Direct Claim (see
previous article
), I tried out uploading an OLC file created by SeeYou. It
was incompatible with the HOLC. Thankfully the HOLC now gives you a way to
delete your IGC file and your entry and start again. This is a new feature that
we never had over the years and not this year until the last few weeks. Big
improvement. You can also edit some aspects of your entry (although, of course,
not the IGC file).

Since the OLC file upload didn't work I didn't try the upload directly from
SeeYou to the HOLC because basically it sends up the same information, which I
already knew was incompatible with the HOLC way of doing things. I say stick
with Claim, Direct Claim, upload your IGC file and then fill in the required
additional information.

Once you've got your flight(s) uploaded, you can check them out and compare them
with those flown by other pilots. You can't get to your flights directly, and
the only way I know how to get there, is to click Scoring in the menu, and then
your glider/contest type (like Hang Glider (FAI-1). Scroll down the list of
pilots until you get to your name (hope that you are doing well so that you
don't have to scroll that far) and then click on your name to see a list of your
flight.

You'll now see a list of your flights (if you've claimed a few), with the latest
on top of the list. Click the "i" on the right hand end of the record for the
flight that you wish to see in more detail. If you wish to edit the flight
information, click "Edit Flight" in the upper right hand corner.

Others can view the details of your flight, download your IGC file, view your
flight in Google Earth, but not edit your flight.

Unlike in the past there are no national contests within the HOLC. You won't
find a way to create your own local contest. You also won't see any summaries or
statistics about your flights.

Tomorrow we'll look at Leonardo, the second longest running on-line contest.
