... There was an article every day we were there on David Hicks ...
When we were in Australia you constantly heard about David Hicks
(an Australian citizen held in Guantanamo) and heard from his lawyer, US Army
Maj. Michael Mori. Australians (other than John Howard) appeared to be appalled
that Mr. Hicks had not been returned to Australia and had been held in
Guantanamo for five years. They didn't seem to be supporters of Mr. Hicks, they
just wanted him to have "a fair go." Very Australian. Now this news breaks:
NY Times article
The decision by the United States military to charge an Australian
citizen, David Hicks, with one terrorism-related offense comes as Prime Minister
John Howard is under mounting pressure, even from conservatives in his own
party, to have Mr. Hicks charged, tried and brought home.

Now comes word that Hicks' trial may be delayed because his
American military lawyer, Maj. Michael Mori, is being threatened with
prosecution under the UCMJ by the chief American prosecutor, Col. Morris Davis.
Morris has criticized Mori's frequent trips to Australia; and, as The Times
reported yesterday, American embassy officials tried and failed to have the
Pentagon bar Mori from coming to Australia.
Why would anyone doubt that Hicks will get a fair trial?
