The Blue Sky Scooter Tow Clinic at Quest was very well done. Steve
gave participants all the information needed to construct, use, and teach
beginners using a scooter tow. I think it is a great teaching method for the
following reasons: It's so easy you could fly a bag of rocks in good wind
conditions. It is very mobile, and can be done just about anywhere giving access
to potential students who would not normally see hang gliding. So the ability to
have a mobile training facility combined with the up coming hassles for
aero-towing makes scooter towing the best way to introduce more people to the
sport. Teaching beginners with this method is so simple and safe, and while I
was towing I enjoyed the ease and slow speed of the take off like a glorified
man tow. It was pure fun.


I think we will get more instructors and more mew pilots out of the scooter
towing. A few people I know from the clinic and elsewhere are already
constructing a scooter tow setup either for themselves to get high in places
they never could, or to teach with, or both. I would like to see more scooter
towing operations spring up that travel to high schools, colleges and tourist
towns in search of new pilots. Once I get the money or resources for a scooter
towing operation I would certainly love to be on the road teaching new faces in
new places.
