USHPA magazine editor calls on CIVL to mandate how we run our competitions

USHPA magazine editor calls on CIVL to mandate how we run our
competitions

CIVL was right to stop the competition when they did. But what
else should they have done?

1) They should have created a working group of qualified participants to analyze
data. This group should have, in turn, provided solutions to a larger group of
experienced individuals to review. This larger group should have then
recommended a way forward. The review period itself should have lasted no more
than 3 weeks.

2) CIVL should have banned all Open Class gliders from all competitions. And
then they should have followed Step 1.

Instead, CIVL shifted the burden of responsibility to their member associations,
with no clear recommendations regarding how to proceed.

What Nick Greece does not seem to understand is that we are under
no obligation to follow what CIVL recommends and it is totally up to us what to
do. CIVL can not ban all Open Class gliders (I assume that he means Competition
Class paragliders) from all competitions because they only have authority over
Category 1 competitions, and frankly we are not the slightest bit interested in
having them have any authority over our competitions.

Of course, the USHPA has properly exercised its authority and in this case
ignored the CIVL "ban."
