Pete says leave the NTSS alone
Lawrence Lehmann <<lplehmann>> writes to his regional directors:
I would imagine you've seen the note below from Davis, but if not I would like to state my categorical support for Davis' position. The USHPA BoD's attempts to jury rig the competition scene into the equivalent of a recreational bowling league is asinine and ill-conceived.
If the BoD would like to create a leisure competition circuit fine; but not at the cost of corrupting the legitimate competition system designed to foster the development of first class, world class, pilots in this country. I find it savagely ironic that at the very moment that the US competition scene is once again producing legitimately top-rank pilots (Zac Majors, The Jeffs O'Brien and Shapiro, and others) members of the BoD with little understanding of competition flying are attempting subvert the very system that has produced them.
Please work against this truly foolhardy endeavor.
Pete was responding to my email to the competition pilots who signed the petition to the USHPA BOD requesting (among other things) that the "…USHPA Board, Executive Committee and president stop moving forward on changes to the competition rulebook and NTSS system…" I asked them to contact their regional directors and ask:
…that the Competition Workgroup proposal only be implement as a separate competition system not combined with the existing NTSS one. Steve Kroop has asked for two National Championship rankings. One for Race-to-Goal (GAP scored events) and another for non-race cross country events (like the King Mountain meet and the Chelan Cross Country Classic). I support his proposal. He also proposes (as I have) that there be a separate competition committee for this other competition system.
