After making the last turnpoint at the Daderang intersection I saw Blay (on a Moyes Litespeed) 1,900' below me (in a Moyes Litesport 4) to the right turning and climbing. Warren (on an Airborne Climax) was 1,000' below me heading for Blay. I was high enough to make it over to the hillside on the east side of the Kiewa valley, but I saw these guys turning and against my normal instincts which said to me forget these low losers and head for the hills, I decided to go over to them where there was obviously some lift. Of course, there wasn't any lift over them and I had to wait for the lift to get up to me along with Warren and Blay.

Blay and I searched around and finally headed over to the hillside, something that I should have done fifteen minutes earlier. A crucial error there. At 16:41:18 we entered a thermal at 2054' (me) and 2254' (Blay). I was able to climb up through him at 322 fpm while Blay made 288 fpm. At 16:52:42 I topped out at 5807', 100' over Blay and headed out with Blay just behind me.

I glided 5 km to the next thermal at L/D of 11.5:1 at 35 mph. Blay did 4.7 km at 10.6 at 40 mph. Warren who came into our thermal later got an L/D of 13.2 at 40 mph (TAS) over 4.5 km. I came into the thermal twenty feet over Blay at 4446'.

I climbed at 518 fpm, Blay at 436 fpm and Warren at 437 fpm. Blay headed out first at 6,100' with me 100' below and Warren a few hundred feet further down.

The next glide was 8.2 km for me at 10.3 at 40 mph. Blay did 45 mph at 10.2 over 7.2. Warren did 8.1 km at 11.1 at 38 mph.

In the last thermal I climbed at 336 fpm, Blay did 246 fpm, and Warren 261 fpm. I climbed from 3442' to 5571'. Blay climbed to 5820' and Warren to 5167'.

Blay headed out first on the final glide with me just behind and below him and then Warren. Blay flew at 36 mph at at L/D at 10.8 for 14.2 km. Warren flew at 32 mph for 15.1 km at 12.1. I flew for 14.2 km at 34 mph at 11.2 L/D.

Blay was first in, then Warren, then me. Blay came in with 560' AGL, Warren 382' and me at 613'.
