Snow in the Alps

For all of you that can not imagine real snow in Australia, here is the evidence. The flying season in the North East Victorian Alps has started with cloudbase up to 3000 meters and good climbs averaging 5 m/s. A few paragliding pilots and I had the rare chance to watch people skiing on Mt. Hotham from above and a had beautiful view over the white scenery from Mt. Feathertop over Mt. Bogong to the Kosciuszko range.

The fact of snow at this time of the year is not unusual. There is still a lot of snow and the skiing is still excellent. It is more the great flying conditions which already would have made a big triangle possible, but it was just too cold and I was not dressed warm enough.
I am looking forward to a great Aussie season with big flights. I am planning to run a few XC-Clinics this summer to give hang gliding pilots an Alpine introduction, show them the beauty of the Australian Alps and fly to places even Bogong Cup Cracks haven't seen before. Those interested can contact me: <email>.
Speaking of snow, the snow arrived here early in Jackson as it did from the same storm in Utah: http://hang6.blogspot.com/2008/09/snow-september-1st.html. That new snow is now gone from the mountain tops (and I just flew over Colorado and it is gone from there also). It will be in the sixties here in Jackson this week.
