I just wanted to say thanks for all the great work you and David both did for making the Big Spring Comp a success again in 2008. I know it is a mammoth amount of work to pull one of these competitions together, and so many things have to go just right to make it successful. This year it was a little more expensive with the price of gas being so high but with you two running the show and calling the task it was definitely worth the money for me.

The Big Spring Comp means so much to me as a relatively new pilot. For 7-8 days I get to fly as much as I want, the launches and landings are reasonable, and the people in both the town and in the Comp are great. I was amazed at how friendly all the other pilots are. After losing a pin for my Talon, I thought I was going to have to miss a day and drive back to Austin to find a new one but Jeff and Dustin, guys I had never met before, both offered me new pins when they found out. You just don’t see this kind of friendliness in most other sports , especially to the newer and less experienced guys.

I had a great time meeting and hanging out with the other pilots like Mark and James from Arkansas, Eric and Lucas from Lookout, Chris from Montana, Kent and Susanne from Ft Worth, Gregg from Dallas, Chaney form Big Spring, Russell and his wife from Quest, Kim from Texas, Jim, Campbell, Laura, Belinda and so on.

The task called were exceptional. All were doable with the right amount of difficulty. For me what makes going cross country from Big Spring so fantastic is not the destination, or the journey getting there or anything like that, it is that I get to step off the reservation for just a little while and do something most will never experience. For a few days, I get to step out of the office and blitz across the earth at 13,000 ft in kite. I get to experience the moistness of a cloud on my face, the transition from hot to cold that comes with altitude, and the magnificence of the endless West Texas plains – all with a few guys that share the same passion.

Thanks again for the great time. I hope you see you both again next year.

Once again, an excellent job with the comp. What freaking epic conditions. Wish I could have stayed for the last two days.  The sport of hang gliding is far better off because of you and Davis.
