Timothy Ettridge <<email>> writes:
As everyone had been anticipating several days in advance, no task was called on Sunday due to high winds and low ceilings. Even so, we still had to spend four hours waiting around on the hill to confirm this. The women and Swifts were optimistic and had set up right away. The men did not. Two Swifts took off (Manfred and Steve Cox, I believe) took off to free fly. I believe it was Manfred and Steve Cox.
On the women's side of launch, it turned into an international friendship day. One random moment found Natalia Red (Russia), Jamie (USA), Natalia Small (Russia), Regina (Germany) Kathleen (UK), Birgit (Finn/Swede representing Australia), Corinna (Germany), and Francoise (France) conversing in a circle.

Manfred gave an impromptu introduction to three-axis flying, using Christoph's Millennium as a prop.

Race Director Franco Rinaldi (center) and Safety Director Maurizio Tassinari discuss the conditions while Christian and and others look on.
