While at the pre-Worlds I spoke with Richard Lovelace, UK competition pilot. Richard was a witness to Richi Meier's accident. Contrary to earlier repots (see link above), Richard states that Richi had plenty of altitude to throw his chute, that he wasn't too close to the mountain. In addition, as I recall, Richard blamed Richi's sprog setting as being way too low.
