The 2009 Worlds, only four from each country?
The current thinking of the 2009 World's organizers is
that each country will only be able to appoint a team of four pilots (to
score three places) in the 2009 Worlds. Additional pilots will then be
allowed to come to the Worlds based on the country's WPRS standing up to
an additional one per country (maybe two).
This means that the fifth (or maybe six for some teams) pilot will be up
in the air whether they can attend the Worlds. It is not clear just when
they will be notified that they can come and how long they will have to
arrange for transportation. This is not a great problem for European
pilots who can just drive to the Worlds, but for American (North and
South) pilots this is a hardship which I doubt that the organizers fully
appreciate.
They were talking about thirty days notice before the meet. This is
clearly unacceptable. Six months is more like it.
I doubt that there is a physical need to restrict the field to 120
pilots. We had no problems getting all the pilots off the hills with
three launches. There was little to no crowding in the air. 150 pilots
would be quite possible. There were 80 pilots on the waiting list this
year.
I will write to Dave and Brian about these concerns.
The normal compliment of pilots at the Worlds is six per country. We'd
love to get back to that. I'll see what I xan encourage the organizers
to do.
