This is the trip I am organizing. My wish is to have strong teams in Rigid and also in Flex. It is open to "experienced pilots" in aerotow. This is the price figure for Europe.
This is the summary of the cost for the expedition we did in Namibia last January. This is the total cost for pilot.
| Flight Ticket | 1,050 |
| Total freight cost (Container) for glider and ultralight | 1,080 |
| Farm cost Including brunch dinner (20 days) | 900 |
| Car renting | 580 |
| Ultralight pilot | 120 |
| Retrieval car pilot | 50 |
| Towing cost (15 per tow) | 200 |
| Oxygen (reload) | 25 |
| Total (about) | 4,000 |
We ship all the equipment in a 40 container including 2 Ultralight Cosmos trikes with Rotax 582 + 1 spare and 3 dollies. The rotation take eight minutes average, so about 2x7 Pilots are towed within 1 hour!
As half of the group is not top pilot, they take off one hour or two after us. So, all the leading group is always in the thermal within 20 minutes.
This year we will organize an expedition from the 27 of November to the 5 of January.
The target is to stay below 4,000 this year for a 3 weeks trip. As I told you last year, you are welcome to participate to the expedition with some friend of you (if they are experimented pilot in winch or aero towing)
If you want to participate tell me the date which are convenient for you. Personally I, with Jacques Bott, Patrick Chopard, we will be there for the first 3 weeks up to the 15-20 of December.
The max number of pilot will be 20 per period, we will have 2 Ultralight + 1 one spare with 2 Ultralight pilots. What I ask, is to participate to logistics for the 3 Ultralight and dollies by paying 600 Euro and 250 Euro for the Ultralight shipment. So with the participation the total cost should stay below 4,000
The container has taken 35 days to come, I am working to a solution taking only 18 days (from Antwerpen Belgium) to Wallis Bay.
| Estimated price (for a pilot) for 2008-2009: |
|---|
| Flight Ticket | 900 |
| Ultralight logistics participation | 600 |
| Container (and transport to the farm) Ultralight (30 pilots in total) | 250 |
| Container (and transport to the farm) Rigid or Flex Glider | 200 |
| Farm cost Including brunch and dinner (20 days) | 920 |
| Car renting | 550 |
| Ultralight pilots (2 pilots instead of 1) | 200 |
| Retrieval car pilot | 50 |
| Towing cost (15-20 per towing) | 200 |
| Oxygen (reload) | 20 |
| Total estimated cost: | 3,890 |
And 200 less if you bring your glider by the airline company free of charge. We tow to 500 meters above the ground but if 700 meters is required, it is the same price.
I have joined some statistics of all the best glider flights done in Bitterwasser and Pokweni over the last two years. The green line is the performances realized by the gliders during our stay in January. To summarize there is a 80% probability that the weather condition are even better during the next expedition.
The weather statistics are here.
Let me know if you are interested and which period you want to come.
