Lumby Air Races 2008 ends on a High note
On Sunday June 14th over 70 pilots from all over western Canada and NW USA, filled the Lumby Valley sky for hours on end at altitudes of over 10,000 ft. In light and variable winds to conclude a very successful 3rd annual 3 day Lumby Air Races.
Some Hang Glider and Paraglider pilots showed up in Lumby a week early to practice the race around a natural 10k rectangle and a natural 25k triangle over the village of Lumby BC Canada as part of Lumby Days (LumbyDays.ca). Natural meaning there is a visible turn point that usually produces lift. GPS confirmation was still required for scoring.
This was a fun filled and exciting event as pilots were also encouraged to go for spot landings in the L.A.F. official landing zone one mile north of town on the Mable lake road.
$2600.00 was awarded in prize money this year thanks to Lumby Days, N.O.R.D, The Blue Ox Pub and Hubert's Restaurant.
The GIANT FIRE OF LIGHT AND LIFE was lit at the pilots celebration and then Sazacha Red Sky (SazachaRedSkyMusic.com), opened up for the John Noren Band (JohnNoren.com), after a fantastic Greek dinner.
Next year's event may be extended up to 8 days. For more 2008 race details and info on flying or learning to fly in the Beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia Canada, go to LumbyAirforce.com.
