Light non locking aluminum carabineers are used almost universally for aerotowing operations. There are good reasons for that and their use has evolved over time as the risks have been measured by experience. We go back and look at the risks and the mandates from the HGFA.

The HGFA is about to make some changes. Let's examine those changes and see if they are justified and whether they should be adopted more widely.
