A comp that will help Canadian pilots prepare for international competition while giving all Pilots a opportunity to learn new skills and compete in a classic location.

As the 2009 Hang gliding World Championships will take place in the southern French alps there is no closer match to this are in Canada as Golden British Columbia. The dates of the meet were picked to capitalize on the best flying conditions this site has to offer. Golden has been the site of many Hang gliding and paragliding comps in the past and to many pilots it is like an old friend.

Golden is a town of about 3500 people, with another 3500 living in the surrounding rural area that relate to Golden. All kinds of outdoor activities abound: climbing, hiking, mountain biking, motor cross, white water rafting and kayaking, motorcycling, hunting in seasons, fishing, archery range, shooting range, canoeing, bird watching, and all kinds of skiing and snow-machining in winter.

Not forgetting hang gliding and paragliding ! There are lakes and sloughs to go swimming in or just relax at. If you have not seen mountains before, you are in for a treat!

LOGISTICS

As we will be launching from the same site everyday, getting to and from launch will not be a problem as it is a 14 km drive from the meet headquarters on a 2 wheel drive road up to launch. The launch itself can hold upwards of 60 gliders but as only 30 are expected space on launch is more than sufficient. As golden is one of the premier sites in the world it has all of the services and amenities that any pilot could want.

MEET ORGANIZATION

As always, the focus is on providing a solid learning experience for all that are willing to learn. As I have organized a number of regional comps as well as my experience gained traveling to many international comps I have a very solid understanding of what makes a successful competition that is fun and fair. I am in talks with a couple of different individuals to do the score keeping and have a great deal of faith in any of the individuals that I am considering.

PILOT INFO:

An entry fee of $175.00 per pilot is expected with retrieval and rides up the mountain left to the individual pilots. Pilot registration will be done through goflyxc.com (http://goflyxc.com/2008/cdnhgnats) with Early registration open to Canadian pilots for the first 2 weeks followed by open registration. I am planning to have 30-40 pilots but many more could be accommodated with the resources available to us.
