The New South Wales State Titles - day eight, task six

http://ozreport.com/ozweather.php

The results are up (or will be tomorrow) at the soaring spot: http://www.soaringspot.com/nswst2008/

It was a blue day for the last day of the New South Wales State Titles. There were cu's to the north east by Bingara and maybe Barraba, but only a few haze domes and a wispie or two over Mt. Borah. The winds were supposed to be out of the south, but it was coming up the west launch nicely. The lack of clouds, unlike the day before was not exactly enticing pilots off the hill.

The start times started at 1:30 PM and went to 3:30 PM, but folks were just not launching. There were a few paragliders in a air and getting up but this didn't entice anyone to get going until about 2:30 PM. They all must have been hoping for better lift later in the day. A third or more of the field got off after 3 PM.

The task was a straight line down wind shot ninety kilometers to Bingara. Given how tough things have been here at this year's meet, this task may be one of the best changes for good results for more than a few pilots. Of course, we did have a lot of folks in goal the other day for a sixty six kilometer task around the lake. Pretty short tasks at this meet and lots of green paddocks in this area.

With the prize giving tonight at the local RSL (returned servicemen's league?) club (basically the places that are licensed for poker machines), I would think that things might be starting a bit late. I'll probably be 8:30 before half the pilots get back, if then.

Today I drove for Katarina Loshner, who has only been flying a year and got talked into competing here, as Belinda went to a showing of the Metropolitan Opera in Tamworth (via satellite). I wasn't in any condition to launch or land on my feet. I could drive though. Hung out at Godfrey's for a while.

I'll be writing and putting up video of my recent "incidents" and the fallout from them. Turns out a lot of folks have had issues with twists and tears to their knees so I got a lot of advice and stories. More soon on that.

Kari Castle and entourage leave tomorrow. Cookie and Kari flew tandem toward Bingara today. They launched in the middle of the competition, without incident or confusion or concern on anyone's part.

Numerous pilots bombed out as has been happened every day here. It has been a tough meet for all but the most skilled pilots. Even some of those have bombed out.

And results from the day in a few hours.
