Forbes, flying near the cu-nimbs on Saturday
It poured here last night and the tow paddock was thick with high grass after it was cut less than a month ago for the Forbes Flatlands. More pilots showed up on Saturday, but the previous night's rain kept the cu's from appearing until around 11 AM. As soon as they appeared lenticulars formed right on top of them. Hmmm, there was no wind on the ground. And the forecast was for light winds up above also.
Armand pulled me up and I got off at 1,000' AGL inn light lift. Light lift was to be the story of the day. Cloud base was about 4,000'. The cu's were everywhere and Steve Moyes showed up below escaping the rain at Sydney with a load of new gliders to test fly.
Finally other pilots started launching as I waited around in the air for folks to head north to Parkes with me. But every time I went out into the 6 mph head wind I got low and had to work my way back up slowly getting back to the air field. The cu-nimbs were forming to the northeast near Parkes and the rain started near there.
Some pilots were having a great time making low saves near the air field. Some went out on course but not too far. Steve and Nomo got all the new gliders tested. I landed back at he airport after a couple of hours playing with the air.
