Dune Gooning at Belmont
It's just across the road from Scott and Monica's in Belmont and just a short drive down the street from the Airborne factory in Redhead. You've got to be prepared for a short drive through the sand, so let the air out of the tires and keep going.
Scott got off work early and later Russell Duncan joined us with his kids. The dune is about fifty feet high at launch and the wind was about thirty degrees off of straight in to the right (the south).
The winds were consistent with few gusts allowing for lots of close work. This was my third time at a dune site in twenty years so my gooning was not quite up to the standards exhibited by Scott and Russell, who were constantly dragging their hands and harnesses through the sand (and some times the water at the bottom of the dune).
Scott was landing on my nose plate, the truck, my leading edge, various bushes, etc.

Soaring in place.

See Wakka, the dog, on Scott's back.
Lots more photos of flying the dunes here: http://ozreport.com/pub/belmontdunephotos.shtml. You'll get to see what the dunes look like (the Google Maps and Google Earth version is a bit old (these are dunes after all)). You'll also see their relationship to Redhead bluff and the nearby buildings.
Yes, we are waiting on the weather to turn better inland.
