Great day, went down early
... It turned out to be a super day at Cloud 9, but I went down early. ...
The flight
Well the forecast was correct and it turned out to be a great day. I got out to launch at 12:20 with cu's popping over head. The wind was out of the northeast at 15 mph.
The lift was weak, except for one thermal where I got 400+ fpm to cloud base at 5,100' MSL. But I spent most of the time at 2,500' AGL in weak lift just staying up and drifting. I made the mistake of going for some visible lift about an hour into the flight from 2,700' AGL and not getting it. Should have just hung in the zero sink that I had.
Then I got to spend the rest of the day looking at the beautiful cu's. The wind was taking me toward Elkhart, Indiana, a direction that I had not gone before, and I was looking forward to the new scenery. Discuss Cloud 9 at the Oz Report forum
