We arrived a couple of days ago in the Iosco township and at Cloud 9, Lisa and Tracy's place out in the country northwest of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

On Thursday, the thick cu's showed up at 3 PM and I wasn't ready for them. On Friday, I got ready early and a little after 1 PM Mark Bolt and I took off (Mark twice) into a sky with a few thin widely spaced wisps around. I was looking for those nice thick cu's to come back a little later, but they never did show up.

I pulled the pin at 1,000' AGL when it seemed like there was a bit of lift around and for the next twenty minutes I worked 34 fpm until it finally turned on and I climbed to 4,000' in 150 fpm. With a 6 mph northeast wind the idea was to drift to the southwest for a start and see what was available. Turned out that there wasn't much and 16 km down the course line we landed at a nice sod farm which made for a pleasant break down. It's nice to be here.

We'll be here hanging out before heading to the depths of Zapata, Texas for the World Record Encampment. It's cool enough here to be enjoyable. And the flying can be great.
