We hang glider pilots are a unique group of people; the first humans in the
history of mankind to run off the earth, stay in the sky for hours with no
mechanical power to keep us up there, and then land on our feet. Truly
remarkable.

I for one am glad to have been at Morningside Flight Park a couple
of summers ago. The day was very light lift and the many usual Morningside "ace
pilots" were taking pretty quick sled rides off tow, unable to stay up. Then the
murmur in the earthbound crowd started rustling like a zephyr in the tall grass,
"Who's that guy in the Falcon?" "I dunno." "Wait, is he climbing?" "Holy crap,
that guy's climbing out." "Well that's not possible. Everyone else is sinking
out." "So, who is that guy?"

My amused reply was, "That's Johnny Armstrong. He's been flying longer than most
of you have been alive." It was a special day for me. The first time I'd seen
John flying since he started up again. It's been a good run, John.
