Pilot survey results for 2014 Big Spring Nationals
100% agree or strongly agree that, "Competition leadership was
sufficient." "Executive decisions were occasionally made, when required and made with good
humor. I afterwards suggested a couple of minor changes and there were welcomed
and will be implemented next year." "Very experienced." "Excellent." 91% would definitely, "Participate in this competition in the future?" (9% maybe
yes) "As much as I love the flying here, I'd like to explore new areas and think that
more variety in locations might be better for the HG community as a whole." "13
years now and 14th coming up. This is by far the best competition in the US."
"It was a true competition in every aspect and at all levels no matter where you
were in the scoring. You had the chance every day to complete the task if you
were capable of making all the right decisions and if you did not you leaned
something from it. The top ten pilots were friendly and approachable, they
shared their information. The organization was so professional and polished." 100% of the pilot said that they, "Would you recommend this competition to
others?" "I placed next to the bottom but had an absolute blast. My first comp." "Good
air, easy landings, safe, strong thermals. Long tasks." 100% of the pilots stated that they were extremely satisfied with this
competition. In answer to the question, "In your opinion what would increase participation at
this event next year?" Pilots' wrote: "From a sport-class perspective, I think that having some sort of introduction
on the practice day to go over competition basics (how to use your instrument
etc.) might help new pilots feel more comfortable about jumping in to
competition." "Maintain the high focus of the sport pilot class with all sanctioned events. I
saw a growing trend of sport class pilots. They are our future." "The competition clinic in Georgia inspired several pilots to attend Big Spring
so more competition clinics would help increase the pool of potential
competition pilots. Reduced fees for first time pilots would incentivize those
who are on the fence. Good articles from pilots talking about their experience
in Big Spring from a cross country flying perspective rather than a competition
perspective may help keen cross country pilots become interested in
participating who perhaps are otherwise adverse to competition flying. I managed
to persuade several pilots to attend by promoting this as an cross country
Mecca."
