2014 Big Spring Nationals

Jamie Shelden freaked out that we are calling our competition the Big Spring
Nationals as she is applying for the US Nationals for her meet in Americus,
Georgia, the 2014 Flytec Americus Cup and US Nationals. First, it has been called the Big Spring Nationals previously, when it wasn't
the US National Championships. Second, all the USHPA sanctioned hang gliding meets are National level meets. Third, we are using to term Big Spring Nationals to market ourselves to the
folks of Big Spring who support us very strongly every year. We want them to
know how much we appreciate them and how proud we are of their town. We want to
continue to get their very high level of support (far higher than any other US
competition). It is very important to us to be able to use this moniker to help
us get this support. Fourth, other than the designation of the US National Champion there is nothing
special about the US Nationals in terms of its value to pilots for National Team
Selection Points to determine who gets on the National Team that goes to the
Worlds. Fifth, we are not marketing the Big Spring Nationals as the US Nationals only as
the Big Spring Nationals. We don't claim to crown the US National Champion (or
Women's National Champion (Linda Salamone division of one) or the US Sport Class
National Championship). We are not using this National moniker to market to
pilots, but to the Big Spring folks. So, just to be clear, the 2014 Big Spring Nationals is not the 2014 US
Nationals.
