This competition will be run with basic organisation as our small team is preparing for the PG Worlds in Manilla in 2007. HQ will be in Manilla at a location to be advised.
The conditions in January are stronger than March and the XC days are 2-3 hrs longer. In the past this time of the season has seen flights like : Double 300k flight (2 pilots same day, Enda & Rhett 2002), Tandem World longest distance - 223kms (GW 2000), Aust Dec Goal Record 245kms (GW 2003), 3x200+kms 3 days in a row (GW 2001), and 1000's of personal bests by pilots from around the world of all skill levels.
With 150 pilots going for distance daily it is likely that flights over 300kms will be made and possibly even 400kms+ if the weather is perfect. Either way, regardless of the actual open distances achieved it is still a FAI cat 2 competition and pilots will be racing each other daily and using the RACE scoring system.
It is intended that the GAP scoring parameters will be set such that an even pilot spread day with one over 200kms will score 900 points (max available in Open Distance format), and the same spread but only 100kms max will score 500 points etc.
It is critical for safety and convenience that all pilots are in retrieve teams. We will endeavour to provide assistance to pilots who are coming alone to find teams with places or to make teams up. This will be done via the news emails to the pilot lists once regos' are received. There are many experienced local drivers available for hire with and with out their own cars / 4WD's at very reasonable costs.
